Fleet Week with Anchor Gray

The moment I saw the referees [see: hallway doors painted black with white stripes] I knew we needed to make a change.  I can't even take looking at this picture, it is like an optical illusion gone wrong because it is painted in my hallway.

Foul.

I needed to correct this one, pronto.  We were half-way through painting the apartment, so I couldn't take my usual seven months to decide on a new color.  In a moment of clarity, I realized I had already painted umpteen shades of gray all over the walls of our bedroom during the last several months of indecisiveness.  I waltzed into the bedroom, took a look at the swatches that had not yet been painted over, and picked one: Anchor Gray.  This marked the fastest painting decision I'd ever made, spurred by my steadfast desire to never come home to the referees again.

I emailed Eli and asked if he could pick up some Anchor Gray for the doors.  I heard back from him within the hour, and he said no problem! I heart Eli.

On the fourth night of passover painting, I came home to two sets of the doors sporting the Anchor Gray.

Anchor Gray!

Perfect, much? I'm thrilled with the way it turned out, and can't wait to see it on the rest of the doors.

I'm dying to get this place decorated with functional furniture.  Break for story-time: we've been dumping our mail onto the floor of the hallway every day, for eight months.  Sad.  Did someone ring for a mirror and console table?  Oh I believe that was me.

I mocked up the addition of a new mirror, console table, rug, and lighting and this was the result.

Forgive the perspective, weird angle and too difficult to fix.
I love the concept, and I also love the price tag.  I didn't have an exact budget in mind for this room, but I wanted to keep it under $1,000.  This is the budget breakdown.

Ikea Stave Mirror - $49.99
Room and Board Parson End Table with White MDF Top - $339.00
Joss & Main Table Lamp - $86.95
4x6 Albert and Dash Rug - ($138.00)*
West Elm Globe Pendant (X3) - ($279.00)**

*A birthday gift from The Karps!
*Was taken care of with the wedding gift cards from Williams Sonoma.

Total out of pocket: $474.95

Alright, that leaves some room for an electrician! The globe pendants are hard-wired and we need to add an outlet under the console table for the lamp. Both of those projects require a professional.  If anyone has any local recommendations, please let me know!

These are some gratuitous shots of the loot that will soon shower the hallway.

Albert and Dash Indoor/Outdoor Rug
$138 - 4x6

Room and Board
Parson's Console Table w/ White MDF Top
$339

Ikea Stave Mirror
$50

Joss & Main Lamp
$89
*Sample Sale Over*

West Elm Globe Pendant
$279 for 3

Also, you might be asking what that little cube is under the table.  I wanted something we could sit on to put on boots and lace up sneakers, so that is a leather cube from Williams Sonoma, which is not in the Round 1 budget, but we can dream.

Quick reminder, if you have local electrician recommendations please let me know, and if you have any feedback on the hallway I'd love to hear!
